Such personally identifiable information may include, without limitation, name, e-mail address, mailing address and telephone number. When you visit the STM Sites, our servers automatically collect information that describes how you use the STM Sites (which pages you visit and how long you stay, plus the anonymous information automatically sent to us by your web browser, such as browser type, data that identifies the page you visited prior to and after your visit to an STM Site, and your IP address). We also may determine what technology is available through your browser so we can serve you the most appropriate version of a page. We collect information on the STM Sites through a variety of technical methods, including cookies and web beacons. Cookies are pieces of information that a Web site sends to your computer while you are viewing the Web site. Web beacons are small pieces of data that are embedded in images on the pages of the STM Sites. Cookies, web beacons and other technical methods may involve the transmission of information either directly to us or to another party authorized by us to collect information on our behalf. Cookies (including beacons), by themselves, do not provide STM with personally identifiable information unless you choose to voluntarily provide this information to us by, for example, registering on an STM Site. However, once you choose to furnish us with personally identifiable information, this information may be linked to the data stored in the cookie. We may use the information collected through these technical methods for many purposes, including delivering content, tracking and enhancing our guests' experience on the STM Sites. Many advertisements that appear on the STM Sites are managed and placed on the STM Sites by third parties. These companies are called "network advertisers." Network advertisers who place advertisements on the STM Sites may use cookies and Web beacons to collect non-personally identifiable information about your visits to the STM Sites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like to obtain more information about the practices of some of these network advertisers and to make choices about their use of your information, please click on this link If you click on an advertisement on one of the STM Sites and link to a third party's web site, then our Privacy Policy will not apply to your personally identifiable information collected on that third party's web site and you must read the privacy policy posted on that site to see how your personally identifiable information will be handled. An IP address is a number assigned to your computer or network when you’re on the Internet. It’s usually associated with the place you enter the Internet, like your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or your school. When you visit pages on an STM Site, our servers log your IP address. We collect IP addresses for a variety of internal purposes, such as system administration and to keep track of the number of visits to different pages on the STM Sites. This Privacy Policy does not apply to any personally identifiable information you may disclose publicly in user forums (such as chat rooms or discussion boards). When you voluntarily post information on message boards or in chat areas, that information can be collected and used by other people to send unsolicited messages (or “spam”) and marketing materials. STM assumes no responsibility for any action or policies of any third parties who collect information that users disclose on discussion boards or in other public areas of the STM Sites.
