How to make an anime film?

NakedAge's picture

Hi everyone.  I'm kind of new here.  I've been registered a while but today is the first time I've really had to take a look around.

I'm currently studying to become a writer.  Not just, novels and articles, but movies, television and theatre also.

Since a child, animation has always been my preffered medium to work with as far as making motion pictures goes, but I'm a sucker for honesty and to be honest I have absolutely ZERO drawing talent.  Writing on the other hand is my strong point and so something I've always wanted to do was to create an anime film, or the idea for one.  Create the story, the characters, their personalities, the plots and so forth.  I'm a bit anal when it comes to concepts though and if anything was offered up I'd definately want to play a major part in how it all comes together, from everything as far as how each character is drawn, to the editing and even as to the soundtrack. (My back ground is audio so it's VERY important to me.)

So, if I sat down and penned out a draft, who would I send it to?

I've written letters to Manga about this because it's something that one day I'd really love to do, but never got a reply.
Could anyone help me?  I'm a fan of anime but have only ever been able to get into the viewing aspect, as a consumer, never from a business or industry perspective.  If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your help.

First thing you should do is develop all of your characters. Describe personalities, how they look, and etc. If it's a fanasy world, you should probably plot the different areas and all. Then write the story probably more like a script. I think that would be the best way to go if you cannot draw well. I hope this helps!

Thank you I appreciate that.  Creating characters and establishing environments and plots etc is a given, it's not so much the format I'm having troubles with, more the process and contacts, as in, who would I address the manuscript to?  What criteria does Manga require for their manuscript? (Word count etc)

Something like a submissions guideline.

I am not sure totaly

Maybe you can ask them through an EMail or letter or something? They may not even take a look at it, but they might.

Yeah I tried that about a

Yeah I tried that about a month or two ago.  No response.  I'm worried because today I just got my Sci-Fi assignment back and my tutor had alot of good things to say about it, so, I think I could really put some good stories into anime/manga films and really be a benefit to the artform.  Not only that, video games aswell.

Mortal Kombat is such a great game because of the storyline, because it's able to continue and because it's developed into a universe of it's own with characters and so forth.

War Hammer, Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings, Street Fighter, all of these games, books and movies have one thing in common.  They have a great story behind them.

Look at Berserk! Though a bit more unknown, an amazing manga. But I am sorry I cannot help you more. I wish you the best of luck! I have a similar dream, but mine is to work for Shonen Jump. I have so many ideas and decent drawing skills, so I hope I am ready!
