Now I know just with that subject line some of you are all ready to come in here and tell me - they're the robots, the think tanks, blah blah blah. But the question now gets a little more complex. The real question I have to ask is - who's or what are the Tachikomas to the Major? I have my thoughts, but I would like to hear some thoughts from the community before I post my thoughts. ( Wow, in preview it has I posted this post in 1/1/1970. ??? I would have been running home from school at that time to watch Speed Racer. hahahaha)
Well the tachikomas are a
Well the tachikomas are a moible tank unit that can think on their own for very heavy combat, like going up against terrorist that will more than likely have an army of followers and and heavy machinery themselves. To the major they are for breeching heavly gaurded areas. in order to obtain her objectives. the tachikomas belong to batu though, i believe.

You are close, Lala. The Tachikomas are free thinking independent AI tactical tanks. They belong to Section 9, not just Batou, and each member of the section seems to have their own Tachikoma, as was evidenced by Batou giving his natural oil instead of synthetic like the rest. They are supposed to synch with each other after every mission, so that they don't develope individual personalities, but they are often a little sneaky and mischievious, so there are often times where thy don't synch. I think the Major sees herself as a kind of schoolteacher and the Tachikomas are her class. She gives them the orders, and tries to keep them in line, but often secretly smiles about some of their antics or how they come up with a solution to a problem. People fear the strange and unusual. I AM the strange and unusual.

1phantom70 I like your answer as being a school teacher. But I look at it this way – they are the Major’s children. We know she can’t have children, and know matter how hard up or rough the Major may appear to be, she is always looking for something to make her feel secure with herself for herself. When you have children, you pass on your knowledge to them. With the Tachikomas, the Major is able to give them her knowledge and watch them grow with it. When the Major interacts with the Tachikomas it might appear to be simply giving orders, but I see over the duration of the series it appears more as a mother making sure her children do right and are secure. But I wonder if the Major is conscience about this or is it something subconscious she doesn’t even realize she is doing? "Work as if you were to live a hundred years. Seeing as how she does have
Seeing as how she does have a human brain, I think it's subconsious. There are a million things we do every day that we don't think about, including how we interact with others, because our subconscious mind controls those things freeing up our conciousness to think about whats for dinner, or in the Majors case, how to infiltrate the terrorist cell. People fear the strange and unusual. I AM the strange and unusual.
Not to sound ignorant here....
...but what show is this from? It sounds kinda interesting....^_^; Dewa Mata,Niji-Hana OTAKU NINJA"If you listen to the world, you'll hear all kinds of false claims about morality. But the gospel offers an unchanging standard of truth."
No problem Niji-Hana. We are
No problem Niji-Hana. We are talking about Ghost in the Shell. The manga started in 1989, followed by 2 movies, 1995 and then in 2004. Two years of a TV series on Cartoon Network, then a TV movie from that series. Now we're waitingfor the live action 3-D movie Spielberg should have out next summer.
