i believe that they did not want to stretch it out to long and kill the fan base it had some animes do that. it is hard to do though.

I totally agree , but if they were to start a new serious they
totally have to make a new plot.......Like if it was a whole new

it was a good anime..
but if it were to continue with the plot of L trying to
capturing kira and light trying to find L
it might be a bit redundant...
i personally love deathnote and would love to see more
uhm.. i think its better that it ended young and epic than ending because no one wanted to watch it anymore

Here's the thing. When a story is over in Japan, it usually stays over. But here in the US, they like to beat a story to death. think about how many good movies have really sucky sequels. Take a story line and replicate it to death. just like the proliferation of "reality" shows that are staged and shown on every channel of the tv.
