Ahhh, I see your point. I had a friend in college a while back. when he was a junior he got stuck with 2 freshman roommates. He didn't like it, but he gave them hell until they would do whatever he wanted. He was happy after that.

If you saw a fight on the street, you might think it's unnecessary violence, but if you talked to the guys fighting, one guy may be fighting to protect his girlfriend, and the other to protect his life after disrespecting said girlfriend. In each case it's not unnecessary violence, or even considered violence. It's a definitive resolution to the problem.
