“That’s just gross.”

Today’s review is another fun Tokyopop title aptly named “Arm of Kannon.” The following sums of my complete experience of this manga so far: “…Awww!! Oh God! Why!? Ah, man that’s not right!! Is that…did they just…holy crap!! That’s just…ahhh…that’s SO wrong…SO…SO wrong. Wonder what’s on the next page—AHHH DAMNIT!! No!! Why!?” Yes my fellow comic reading brethren, Arm of Kannon is one sick puppy. When handed this vaguely Battle Royalesque series, my cruel masters at Manga.com gave me not a hint of warning, nor any measure of sympathy for the depravity in my future. Any sane person...

“Why so serious?”

Sometimes horror manga can take themselves too seriously. Nearly every single one of them comes to mind. That in itself isn’t a bad thing, but when you’re forcing the reader go through chapter after chapter of drama, intensity and all that other serious business you honestly make the reader tired. I mean come on, they’re reading for pleasure not doting on the author’s pretentious notion that every one of his words is golden and can’t be ignored otherwise you ruin the plot of the story. Sometimes one wants something light hearted in the dark abyss of...

“Day Job of the Dead”

For those of you playing drinking games at home, get ready to take another shot. Me reviewing Darkhorse titles is now kind of like Sarah Palin saying the word “Maverick.” And honestly I would have said “No, go die in a hole new Darkhorse Manga” had the cover itself not stopped me in my tracks and forced me to go out and buy every volume I could before even cracking the pages open. The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service, aside from having one of the longest titles in any Manga I’ve ever read, is all...

I had heard about D.Gray-man for a while. A friend of mine was always saying good things about it. But, me being me, I usually toss to the side titles that are often raved about by the masses, thinking that they’re over-rated. Now that I’ve finally gotten the opportunity to pick it up, I was delightfully surprised at the full variety that D.Gray-man has to offer.

Allen Walker is your average 15-year old English boy. Well, except for the deformed hand he uses as an anti-Akuma weapon. Oh, and his ability to see Akuma with his left eye. And did I...

Honestly, when I was given a list of manga to choose from, I didn’t do the intelligent thing like peruse them, look for summaries, and then pick what sounded interesting to me. No, I decided I would haphazardly choose titles with no basis for what they were about, pick them up, and then review them. This was in part because I was told some of the stuff on here was “darker” and I usually tend towards the humorous and goofy, so I figured there wouldn’t really be “choices” for me anyhow. Black Sun Silver Moon ended up being one of...

More girls with powers...

Cliché’s are a part of life. We have it in movies and television and video games and of course we have it in Manga. Take for instance this cliché: A boy meets a girl with magical powers who just so happens to be running around in skimpy cloths and no underwear so he proceeds to invite her to live with him all the while the world he knows goes to Hell and the only way out has to do with that mysterious girl. Black God seems to have thrown the dart at the board-o-used-ideas and came up...

I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking ‘Why in the world hasn’t she read Hellsing before?! Hasn’t EVERYONE read Hellsing?’ To be honest, that’s exactly what I thought as I picked this one up. It had always been on that list of “manga to read that I don’t have time for.” Now that I had the opportunity staring at me, I’m kinda sad I’ve missed out on it for so long. On the other hand, I have a lot to plow through now that I know I really like it.

For those of you who aren’t in the know, Hellsing follows...

I’m a little tongue-tied here. How does one explain the sheer action-packed awesomeness that is contained within Black Lagoon? The back of the book does it pretty well: “Four hardcore heroes, one high-speed torpedo boat, TEN THOUSAND BULLETS!” If there’s anything that’s the most accurate, it’s that last phrase.

Black Lagoon follows the story of a ragtag group of mercenaries that’ll do anything to get paid – though really they insist they’re a simple delivery service. However, deliveries can get a little dangerous when you enter the Underworld and work with the Russian Mafia, Columbian drug cartels, Chinese triads, murderers, thieves,...

Dr. Muraki is not a nice guy. He’s a serial killer, a mad scientist, a rapist, a vampire-summoner and a caster of malignant spells. He’s also one of the most spellbinding characters you’ll find in all of anime.

And the series he’s in, Descendants of Darkness, is one of the best anime shows you’ll ever find either. After a teenage boy named Hisoka sees one of Muraki’s murders, Muraki kills him to be rid of witnesses. But that’s not the end. In the afterlife Hisoka signs himself up at the Ministry of Hades, an...

Kisses can be powerful things. They evoke deep, primal emotions between two people. Whether it’s an affectionate peck on the cheek or a passionate lip-lock, kisses have always been a primal exchange of emotion. One could even say that a kiss from someone they love dearly would be a gift of great power.
Enter Amane and Hyoue. At first sight, they’re quite the odd couple: Amane is quiet, reserved, and a bit eccentric while Hyoue is the high school heartthrob. Odd indeed… Especially when you find out their public displays of affection aren’t simple kisses. It turns out that Hyoue...
