American mangaka or Japanese mangaka?

Does a manga with an japanese artist name on it sell better than an americans name ?Example would you be inclined to think a manga with(drawn by hireo mitshima) on the cover would be better or more authinic than if it said (drawn by josh brown)????

An old friend of mine gave me an american manga a long while ago. It was alright and the art was good but I still perfer the japanese ones,
