L's theme in Death Note

I watched Death Note with a few friends who had never seen it before and one of them is pretty sure that L's theme is actually another song thats been used before the anime. I'd never heard it before Death Note but maybe someone else has? I dunno she's obsessing over it and its kinda annoying lol. Any ideas?
