When u find the pic u want click on it and click the view full pic link then save. animefreak.tv used to have a wallpaper section, so try there. bing.com and photobucket.com would probably be good search engines to try. i also love nge, so i hope u find something.

just go to bing.com, google.com, or yahoo.com and search NGE in images. you could always resize an image to fit as your manga avatar by using either paint brush or photobucket.com.
